everything is blooming most recklessly is inspired by a small section in the heart of the Golden Trout Wilderness, a vast forest in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. Early one morning while backpacking, we began our descent into a valley that had recently been burned by the 2018 California wildfires.
From the top of the pass it appeared bleak, but as we descended we were gradually welcomednto a soundscape of crickets, bees, grasshoppers, chipmunks and thousands of birds.
The air was buzzing with new life, and the sonic density increased as we slowly lost elevation. At the valley floor we were greeted with a multitude of strange and beautiful sounds of the plants and native creatures returned to business as usual, repopulating their destroyed home.
The piece is broken into 2 parts: ‘the descent’, and ‘the dream.’
The descent is a realization of descending from the pass to the valley floor, where sparse sounds slowly become more concentrated.
The dream is a memory of those sounds.
